Not getting hungry

I know that I've been stressed out lately and don't really eat as much as I should. I guess when some people stress, they eat more but when I stress I forget to eat. Its been ongoing for a while now and I am loosing a lot of weight. Are there things out there that can help me get my appetite back or even make me hungry?

I find that my hunger routine follows whatever pattern I set for it. Maybe you just need to force yourself to nibble on something, even if you don't actually feel hungry? Without nutrients in your body, your response to stressful events is probably heightened.... I know that I am much moodier when I'm hungry, and then I am more likely to stress out.
I used to NEVER eat breakfast because I wasn't hungry in the mornings, but after a couple days of routinely eating a breakfast bar at 7:30am, on days that I found myself without a snack in the morning my stomach would be growling for food by 8:00. So maybe you just need to slowly condition your body to expect food at certain times again? -

I know what you mean, I've gone through this and its really hard to make yourself eat when you just dont think of it. I was just so busy all the time, that I'd turn around and realize how late it was and didn't eat yet. If you didnt get the "hunger" its very easy to just forget. My dr did talk to me about a pill that will elicit hunger " megase" but decided against it. You can talk to your dr about it. Good thing my lack of hunger didn't last too long, I'm back to eating my weight in food everyday.

The first think I would do is have the doc check your thyroid. This organ controls your hunger. I went through this when my husband was sick with heart issues. I think I was too preoccuppied to eat and then eventually, my body just got used to it. I started feeling unhealthy but still didn't "feel like" eating and it eventually caused me gastro problems. My kids starting bring me my favorites foods. I find that when you have the things you absolutely LOVE in front of you, its easier for you to nibble and start getting your appetite back. Thank goodness!

I wanted to Respond to Vivian publically as I neglected to mention that I already was onn low dose of thyroid meds for low thryroid, diet/fitness trainer suggested with doc to get off med and get more carbs in , so that was taken care of. Talked to Brian the trainer, and suggested less intake of everything on lunches and dinner until my full body fitness training gets me feeling the need for more intake then increase as my hunger increases back up to target to get my metabolism moving up to work off the unhealthy fat. My weight gain yes is from 5 years from mostly immoblity, but also genitic famil bummer genes.

I agree with Laura, I think exercise is a great way to stimulate hunger. However, I've been in the "slums" before and even getting yourself up to exercise is hard (thats when you even have the energy to do so). Try getting a friend to motivate you and be your exercise or eating partner Haley. I know its easier said than done, but I'm rooting for you.
